walking back to our car and the first thing I pulled out of my bag was a
picture of the temple in Salt Lake City. As I asked if they knew what it
was, one of the guys says, "woah, dude--that building died for your sins!"
Although I do not agree with his doctrine, I did think the comment was
quite funny!
They gave us a quick hour today to shoot an email out because libraries
were closed yesterday for Memorial Day (which, by the way was BEAUTIFUL).
It was a great week--I actually wish I actually had time to write
everything. I'll throw out a few things:
-Exchanges with the English sisters (it's always a blast)
-Met some great new investigators with a lot of potential
-Did lots of less active member work
-Sang I am a child of God 22 times in every lesson we had during the week
to make sure people know they are children of God
-Had a great Sunday at church although we had hardly anyone at church
At church, our branch president gave a talk about being part of the rescue
and reaching out to those around us. He talked about the simplicity of
invites and the power of our invitations to our friends. He recounted the
conversion story of one of the teacher-age young men in our branch (by far
one of the strongest members--although he is the only member in his
family). The most profound statement to me was this:
He was converted by the Holy Ghost, but he was first *invited *by his
friend.
How true this is! The Holy Ghost cannot bear witness of this truth until we
invite others to try it out. What power we have!
I was then able to present a branch mission plan during the third hour to
the branch and reminded them, attesting to what our branch president had
said, of something that I want all of you to remember as well.
Our success is not measured by the agency of others. Our success is not
measure by the number of times they accept our invites. Our success is
measured by the invitations we DO extend and our willingness to do all we
can in OUR power to give people opportunities.
I second the Lord when he said:
*Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that
lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance,
to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed*. D&C 123:17
You all have so much power. It all starts with each one of us.
Remember: The only failure in missionary work is the failure to invite.
Have a great week inviting!
