worthy of being sent home. Let me explain: We were standing in the library
this week and I decided to start talking with a guy in front of me. The
conversation ended pretty quickly and I sighed and turned back to my
companion. I paused and then said, "Hermana, sometimes I feel like a
mermaid..." My companion looked at me perplexed. "Uh..." she responded.
"Um..why do you feel like that?" I responded, "people talk to me like I am
normal...until they see my bottom half [my skirt]. That must be how
mermaids feel..." We both laughed. So true. Sometimes I don't realized how
"different" we seem. I will enjoy being different while it lasts!
Anyways, it was a week of highs and lows. Not as crazy busy a week as last
week, but still busy as ever. Here were some highlights:
1. Alberto [my recent convert] gave a talk in Sacrament meeting on Sunday!
The branch presidency had initially called me to ask if I would speak.
However, I know people would much rather hear someone who is NOT a
missionary speak in church--especially on Easter. So, I recommended that
they invite Alberto to do it. And he did! It was his first time and it was
so good. His testimony was so sweet. The best part was when he said, "I
know that we celebrate Christ on Easter...and that's really good...but I
think it is even more important that we think of Him and thank Him every
single day." Amen. So sweet, simple, and true. So proud of him!
2. Tender mercy. We were planning and I was using our area book to find
people to go see. A former investigator came to mind so I was flipping
through the pages to find her. I finally found her and as I held onto the
paper that had her name and information on it, it ripped out of the book.
In short terms...the teaching record stayed in my hand, the binder slid off
my lap, and all the papers in the binder fell all over the ground. Stress.
Despite the big mess, I took it as a sign to go see her. We didn't get to
see her that day, but I felt like we should go see her last night. We did.
To our surprise, we did not find her, but we found her husband who gladly
allowed us to share our message. We have an appointment to follow up with
him on Saturday. We are wishing for the best. We felt good about it! I hope
it was worth me destroying the area book that I had just spent hours
cleaning and organizing...
3. Funny story. So I was trying to go see a less active named Cenobio. We
went to go see him and I knocked on the door and an unfamiliar face
answered. Not knowing that this was NOT who were were looking for, Hermana
Rickey says, "hola! esta Cenobio??!" She was shocked and taken back. I
could tell that she had misunderstood something. So I said, "se encuentra
Cenobio?" Again, she looked confused and slightly offended. "Mi novio?!?"
She responded. I almost died laughing..inside that is. "Mi novio" means "my
boyfriend" in Spanish. "Cenobio is an uncommon name and sounds a lot like
"su novio" if you haven't ever heard the name. She thought we were looking
for her "boyfriend." We set up a time to come back and meet with her family
after learning that Cenobio no longer lived there. As we walked away, we
laughed...awkward first impression of the missionaries...
4. The General Women's Conference was great! It is always great to be
reminded to add an extra measure of love and service to our lives! If you
missed it, go watch it!:) [that includes all the men and boys too! we could
all use the message and reminder!] A few of my favorite quotes were:
"Put down the mirror and look through the window."
*[Forget about yourself and focus on others.]*
"Love is making space in your life for others."
Challenge: I know it's cliche, but prayerfully choose a question to take to
General Conference this weekend. If we don't ask, we can't receive!:)
I am so super excited for General Conference and to hear what the Lord
wants us to know and what what help us right now. Listen and apply their
counsel. It comes as from the mouth of God!:)
Have a great week!
