Hello all!! TRANSFERS are here yet again! Hermana Mohr and I joke that I am getting transferred because our mission president wants to keep me safe. The story behind my subject title goes like this: As missionaries, we have to "back" our companions when they are reversing [driving]. This entails the companion who is not driving standing behind the car and directing and waving the car back as the car is in reverse (kind of like they do with airplanes). This is a safety precaution that helps us not crash into anything. So, I was "backing" my companion out of our tight-parellel-parking parking spot and...well...she didn't exactly stop when I said stop and squished me between our car and the van behind us. Luckily, my gained mission weight was useful for something and kept my femurs from snapping and kept us from smashing into the car behind us. I guess I can't complain. No pain, no gain. Besides, the scriptures say that missionary weight gain is a good thing: *He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat. *-Proverbs 28:25 Anyways, sadly, I got the call that I will be transferred tomorrow. I have loved my time here in Marysville, but it will be a good to have a change. There's a little more to this change...but it's a surprise and I will put it at the end of this letter:) no cheating! don't go peak. Some fun things from the week: - Lost the phone. Again. We prayed when we noticed it was gone. Back-tracked a few miles and found it laying on the ground where we had parked a few hours before. Good thing no one would want our old brick phone... - We decided we were going to be good missionaries and do a harder workout than usual and go running...we started our run and 2 minutes into it, it started to hail. It was a bit painful and we got home freezing and wet, but it was worth it! Satan has nothing on us! Quote of the week [it's only profound because it is in spanish...but I will try to explain]: Yesterday a member was bearing her testimony on her conversion and her relationship with Heavenly Father and she said, "Antes, yo sabia de El, pero no lo conocia. Ahora, en esta iglesia, lo conozco." In english, it translates to "Before, I knew Him (information about him-as if from a textbook), but I didn't *know *Him (personally-as a person). Now, in this church, I *know* Him (has a personal relationship). If you speak/understand Spanish, you will appreciate it more:) Story of the Week: So I got pulled over for the first time this week (don't judge, let me finish the story). It was 8:55 and we were running out of a lesson so we could get home on-time. We ran across the street to our car, and after we ran across the street, a police car passed us. We didn't think much of it. We hopped in the car (I was driving) and pulled out into the road. We saw that the police car had pulled off to the side of the road. I turned to Hermana Mohr and said, "Hermana...are they going to pull us over?" She said, "nahhhh, we didn't do anything." I inched forward. I said, "are you sure?? I feel like they are going to...maybe it's because we jaywalked..." She assured me no and I drove a little faster. Just as we passed the police car, we saw lights and heard sirens. I think it was safe to say that I almost died. "I told you Hermana! I told you! It's because we jaywalked!" Hermana Mohr was annoyed. We pulled off, rolled down the windows, and I fumbled for my license. As I did so, one police officer went to the side by Hermana Mohr and one came on my side and shone a bright light in my face. "Are you CTRing?" Hermana Mohr and I looked at each other shocked and confused. "What??" "Are you CTRing?" We sat there confused. "Is that Washington code for DUI?" We sat, probably looking stupidly mortified for 10 seconds and the police officer said, "Come on, are you wearing your CTR rings?" Immediately we flashed our CTR rings. The officers on both sides began to laugh. We were so confused. They proceeded to say, "hey, no worries. We are Mormons too. We saw two young girls dressed nicely, running across the most dangerous street in Marysville at 9 at night and figured: must be the mormon missionaries. Let's mess with them. Get on home, we already made you late." We left, still in shock. The next day it was certainly a funnier story...silly police officers...I'm just glad I still have a clean driving record... I did, however, pull a nice principle out of this experience. If at any given time, a person was to ask you, hey, are you "CTRing (choosing the right)?" Could you say yes? Challenge: Keep this in mind. Are you CTRing? Remember this as you go about making decisions this week. I know that as you do so, you will have the Spirit to be with you to lead and guide you and, as always, you will be happier:) And lastly...the surprise. Not only will I be transferred tomorrow, but I will also be training a new missionary. Excited to not be the youngest Hermana anymore:) But a little anxious to not know where I am going to train. I know the Lord will prepare the way! Yay for changes!:) Have a great week all!:) Hermana Clark |
