mission field! I wouldn't have it any other way!!
This week was a little slow again. However, we did see some sweet miracles!
We did a lot of fulfilling our baptismal covenants this week by bearing one
another's burdens and did a lot of listening. It's sure fun to be answers
to people's prayers!
We also had "Spanish-English exchanges" this week. I got to go work in an
English area for the day and it was an adventure for sure. It was
interesting that every person I talked to could potentially become an
investigator because they spoke English. The dynamics are certainly
different between the Spanish and English missionaries. While it was a
great experience, I am sure grateful to be a Spanish missionary in a zone
of diligent, hardworking, healthy missionaries. The Lord knew what He was
doing calling me here!
We met Alex's sons this week! They are adorable. They are 14 and 11. Very
smart little gentlemen haha. We hope to start teaching them this week so
they can work toward the goal of baptism together as a family:)
Probably to biggest miracle of the week was getting the Loyolas (a
less-active family) to church. Every single one. We work a lot with Carlos
(the 22-year-old son), but had the opportunity to talk with his dad this
week. He has normally been very closed off, but this week the Lord prepared
him with many hard trials and we were able to invite him to church. Not
only did he come, but his girlfriend and the 6 young kids. It was
incredible. We know that faith truly makes a difference in helping people
come to church. We hope it stays this way!
This week we got to teach an impromptu Relief Society lesson on the
blessings we can receive as we live faithful to the covenants that we have
made. It was good to reflect on for me. We likened our covenants to a
contract. We asked the sisters what a contract was composed of. They
responded: the work we agree too and how much we get paid. Perfect answer,
right?
Our contract has 2 parts, basically. What we agree to and what we will get
in return. It's like covenants. God, as our "boss" gives us, the
prospective workers, the conditions and what are salary, or blessings will
be. When we are baptized or participate in the ordinances of the temple, it
is as if we are signing the contract and agreeing to the terms and
conditions set by Heavenly Father.
As we know, we are imperfect...so sometimes we mess up. We don't always
abide perfectly by the contract. We might "tear" the contract a little
during the week because we yelled at someone...maybe another tear for
forgetting prayers and scriptures. Luckily, we have tape (repentance) and
we can mend the rips. But come the end of the week, we are all taped
up...but we look a little shabby. But no worries! Via the sacrament we
renew our contracts and Heavenly Father prints us a brand new copy of the
contract as we worthily participate in this ordinance. How cool!:) I love
that the gospel is full of new beginnings and second, and third, and
fourth, and fifth chances:)
Challenge: Invite you all to go back and study the contracts (covenants)
you have made. Write down the conditions that Heavenly Father has set and
the salary (blessings) He has promised. Reflect on what you can do better
to receive a better salary.
I know as you will do this, you will find more joy in your life and with
have the constant companionship of the Spirit. What more could you ask for?
Have a great week!
